Giving Mollom a try

About a week before Drupalcon, I was deleting a spam comment on groups.drupal.org and noticed it wanted me to report it to something called "Mollom". Suspecting this was the secret new anti spam program I'd been hearing rumors about for months, I did a search and found the beta site. The site was open to the public, said it was running a public beta, and had all the steps to get started. I did step 1, download, and installed the module. Then I went to step 2, create account, and got an access denied. Thinking it was a mistake since the site clearly said they were in public beta, I sent a message via the contact tab asking how I could sign up. Time passed and I never heard back. Eventually I gave up and deleted the module.

Well, here we are about a month later and Drupal Planet is plastered with people admitting they've been using Mollom secretly all this time and raving about how great it is. Despite its rocky start on g.d.o and the aggravation of my first attempt to join up, and being a bit miffed that I wasn't asked to join the beta. :P, I decided the service is just too intriguing to pass up. So I downloaded the software again and signed up for an account. Thankfully I got in before their servers crashed.

So I've turned off the spam and CAPTCHA and RECAPTCHA modules and we'll see what happens. This site has been a target for spam bots in the past so I'm crossing my fingers. I'll let you all know how it goes.
